Patrick Henry High School girls’ soccer crowned CIF Division II champs

The CIF Division II girls’ soccer championship came home to Patrick Henry High School this past weekend.
The Lady Patriots captured the gold last Friday evening with a 2-1 win over Francis Parker High School in the title game at Bonita Vista High School. It was PHHS’ first time in the Finals since 2005.
With the victory, PHHS (20-3-1) moves along to the CIF SoCal Regional Tournament. Its first match will be Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Lady Patriots will host Portola High School (16-3-2) at 5 p.m.
In the win over Francis Parker for the CIF Division II gold, PHHS made it two-for-two against the Lancers, having beaten them earlier this season (2-0) to win the Parker Cup Championship.
Naima Castro and Sam Bancalari tallied goals for the Lady Patriots, with goalie Grace Miller and a solid PHHS defense limiting Francis Parker to a single goal last Friday evening. Avery Slinger received the Sportsmanship Award.
PHHS advanced in the CIF Division II tourney with wins over Granite Hills (3-2 in OT) and Otay Ranch (2-0), respectively.
